Here Are a Few Sofa Trends Among Custom Furniture Builders in 2024

by | Jul 25, 2024 | Furniture

In the first two decades of the 21st century, custom furniture builders focused strongly on retro-futurism when they designed and produced new sofas. Extra-large sectional and modular sofas with LED mood lighting, USB ports, hidden storage compartments, and 80s-style contours dominated the American and European furniture studios from 2003 to 2020. Since then, however, the design trend has shifted to mid-century design.

For years, the focus was on platform sofas with the base and legs hidden. In 2024, there’s a resurgence of exposed legs, often made with tapered wood with some metal pieces that add a touch of modern flair and protect the legs. This visible leg design creates a lighter and airier feel in the living room.

While tech-filled large sectionals are still popular, there’s a renewed interest in smaller two-seater sofas not being strictly confined to the living room. A stylish two-seater can fit in a bedroom or in a den used as a reading room. These furniture designs are ideal for smaller living spaces such as apartments and condominium units. Some of the features of these smaller sofas include deep seats, plush cushions, and unique backrests that make a statement without taking up too much space.

As for the materials and colors of trending sofas in 2024, they follow the mid-century style conventions of fine leather, premium fabrics, and sober tones such as beige, gray, and brown.
